The oceanic self-dissolution known by Pisces is expressed in a yearning flavor of artistic genius; a distinct sensitivity to the moods and psychic orientations of others; fierce melding with relationships; even harrowing addiction and aimless self-pity. A sort of formless seeking spirit whose wandering poetry can steer any vessel with success when channeled properly.
The first decan or ten degrees (roughly days) of Pisces, really the first three quinaries or fifteen degrees, are in my observation prone to particular shades of escapism or embrace. These may be found in a person born during these degrees, or with other planets in them natally regardless of birthdate; they may be felt by transit, or even simply by living during the days’ passage.
The Sun is currently in the earliest degrees of the Two Fish, and here can be a tendency to escape problems in a vagrant aquarian manner. Pick up and go, take flight and see how things shake out. The later in Pisces the degree, the more I’ve observed a tendency to sort of mythologize one’s suffering, almost singing oneself ever further into the currents of it.
Virgo buttresses our desires and losses with a calmness of the heart, a refinement of the emotional layers — not a reduction but an added stillness between the notes. Mars in that fabled scorpionic ‘urge to merge’ may compound Pisces’ unslakable spiritual thirst — but his sextile to Virgo may also add harmony to the Virgin’s realism in the face of adversity or loss.
Grand Love in Ground Facets
In his Full Moon horoscope today, Adam Elenbaas emphasized Mercury-Jupiter dynamics — the messenger Mercury being Virgo’s ongoing ruler, and Jupiter being the classical ruler of Pisces (prior to the discovery of Neptune, and still just as relevant) … “learning and faith, the rational mind and the building of systems or methods of knowledge, art, or information, or even the relationship between the student and the teacher or the two sides of the brain, or the use of our technical intellect versus spiritual insight, or a broader comprehension through dreams, oracles, and symbolic awareness.”
At the time of today’s Virgo Full Moon 1:20pm EST, it occupied the mercurial 3rd house with our Pisces Sun in the jovian 9th, in both the Placidus and Whole Sign house systems. Mercury and the analogous 3rd house share an association with multiplicity and ‘particular truths’, whereas Jupiter and the 9th have an association with singularity, unification of purpose and ‘transcendent truths.’
“And in our lives, this Full Moon marries Jupiter and Mercury, the conductor and each individual part, each individual page. So in our lives, do we tend to lean too far toward the music without any basic comprehension of musical theory or the construction of the altar? How does a more refined or basic understanding of what we're doing in the various concert halls of our lives bring out the music within the music? How does a more reflective technical awareness, or organizational refinement, bring a purity to the skills we have or the places we work, or the small things we do sing into creation each and every day?”
This 3rd house kickoff serves to reinforce the supporting, realistic yet relativizing essence of our Full Moon’s lessons as she wanes toward a conjunction with Jupiter at 20 degrees Virgo in the coming days. Such earthy, particular awareness carves the features and footwork of our visions, love and pain, while watery openness and belief coo enchantment back at the shared truth found in every facet.
